Meet Catherine
Licensed Professional Counselor
My Education
I have a Master of Arts in Counseling from Spring Arbor University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Multidisciplinary Studies (just fancy talk for a double major) from Liberty University in Psychology and Christian Counseling. Prior to attending Liberty University online, I studied psychology and sociology at Mid-Michigan Community College and Central Michigan University.
During my undergraduate and graduate studies my primary interest was in human development from birth to death. I took classes covering life span development, grief, trauma, group therapy, art therapy, and cognitive behavior therapy.
Since getting my license I have taken continuing education classes in calming the overactive brain, defiant, disruptive children and adolescents, understanding anxiety and related anxiety disorders, and human trafficking. I am also certified in the Prepare and Enrich premarital program.
My Approach
My approach to counseling is based on a partnership between you and I working together to discover the source of your pain and working out how to heal from it. I use an integration of Christianity, spirituality, and psychology. Our past impacts every aspect of our life and affects our present functioning. If we can understand the events that shaped us, we can then begin to heal. I have a variety of techniques to help clients develop an understanding of themselves and learn coping skills.

My Experience
During my career I've worked with clients that struggled with a variety of issues: anger, depression, attachment, anxiety, grief, communication issues, marriage, obsessive-compulsive disorder, bi-polar disorder, autism spectrum disorders, parenting, and relationship issues.

I've had a lot of personal experiences as well that help me empathize with my clients. I'm a child of divorce, a sister and daughter to substance abusers, and a wife and mother to military service members. I've adopted a daughter, and dealt with miscarriage and infertility issues. I lost my younger brother, and am currently caring for my aging mother. I've struggled with chronic illness and overcame anxiety and depression.
